Transgenic Animals

PRE-CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

Current imaging modalities limit the ability of preclinical researchers to do high throughput monitoring of tumor growth and response to drugs in vivo.

Current whole-body optical imaging technologies that offer high throughput are difficult to adapt to small animals due to four challenges:

  • The need to genetically modify cells to make them visible, potentially altering the way that they respond to drugs

  • High tissue autofluorescence (impacting signal/ background ratio)

  • Emitted light has poor tissue penetration thus limiting imaging depth and resolution

  • Little or no ability to visualize liquid tumors
